I want to buy the brightest flashlight for a given number of a type of battery. How can I do that?

I would also like to have some way to determine what how types and numbers of batteries compare. For example, which would be more powerful? A flashlight that uses 2 C batteries or one 4 that uses 4 AA? How many D or C bateries are equivilent to a lattern battery? I’m talking about alkaline batteries or rechargeable NIMH AA or AAA. I don’t think I’ve seen an alkaline lattern battery. Thanks

brightness is measured in lumens or candlepower. first, a lantern battery is either 6 volts or 12 volts. both are lanter batteries, thats the equivelent of 4 or 8 c/d batteries respectfully.(6 volt=4 12 volt=8). a couple facts must be known first. in the past, c and d cell lights were brighter because the larger batteries (including the lantern cells) produced more current. the more current,(amps) the brighter the bulb. with recent technology however, there are flashlights with 1 aaa battery that shine a mile long beam. this is due to the introduction of L.E.D.’s in flashlights. they are a lot brighter, and use MUCH LESS energy.
