Camping/Bushcraft Knife laws in Ireland?

I wanted to know if I go camping in Ireland , can I carry a fixed blade knife and small axe on my camping trip?when I need to start a fire to split wood, prepare my food etc

Does anyone know if big knife or small machete is ok for camping in UK/Ireland?Some people claim is best tool -combination of a hatchet and knive?Any oppinions?

Sure. You have a legitimate reason for carrying them.
Same with tradesmen, cooks with a big knife bag, anyone who has good reason to carry a knife is OK.
A small axe is more useful than a big knife for camping. I’ve camped on five continents with a penknife having a 3 inch blade. Some of the big ‘survival knives’ you see are just crazy.

Small machetes are very useful. Not for big cutting jobs the way an axe can split timber but for smaller pieces and especially for path clearance in dense jungle and rainforest (Glens of Antrim got that bad?) they are very good. Also excellent for meat.
If you can find a smallish one it would be an asset on a camping trip. I have one with an eight inch long blade and a full size machete from Malaysia from the days I was with a malaria survey there. 26 inches long,weighs 5 pounds and not safe to be seen with outdoors here.
Big brute, and needed there. Jailbait here though. No need for one that big in our woodlands. A six or eight inch blade with a longish handle, ten inches or so, is ideal.

Just thought, you can sometimes find big meat cleavers in the charity shops in UK or a pound or two….a few Euros in the south of Ireland.
The heavy ones are ideal for outdoors though they’re intended for kitchen work. Keep it lightly greased with a bit of vaseline and get a small diamond knife sharpener from a £1 shop or B&Q. They put a good edge on them quick and easy.
The type on this pic will put up with a bit of heavy work outdoors, stripping branches, cutting a fire or toilet trench quickly, etc.

Ireland has some great areas for camping, north and south. Love getting there and it’s a short flight for me or a few hours on the boat from the Isle of Man but it’s very expensive now.
When we can see Slieve Donard from Port Erin it’s going to rain. If we can’t it’s usually raining.
