Eureka Timberline 4?
Is the Eureka Timberline 4 a good quality tent? How well does it vent in the summer time and retain heat in the colder spring months? Are the zippers good quality? Can mosquitos get in it?
Used them for years in scouts. Never had any problems. Set-up is easy. They rarely leak. The ridgeline pole will hold up well under snow. The full windows give great summertime cross ventilation and you can set them up almost anywhere.
The full fly helps cut the wind and retains some warmth, but no tent really keeps in heat unless it is something made from a heavy material like canvas or PVC. A heavy tent like a canvas one is not what you want for regular camping. The T4 does fair better than something with a short fly or something with a ton of mesh like Big Agnes tents, which are lightweight but are mostly screen.
Unless they have changed the zippers in the past four years (last time I bought a new one for the Troop) the zippers are of high quality. In 20 years I’ve never seen one blow out…under regular use by scout troops.
Bugs can get in any tent. The netting is good as any other tent, but you keep it open too long and you are gonna get a few bugs.
