How is a studio flashlight different from a high power torch?
LOL.. what is the saying… the Americans and English are two peoples separated by a common language!
Just to add to Ace’s answer, one advantage to proper studio lights is a known, consistent color temperature. This was critical with film use in order to know what filter to use for proper color redention with variious films. With digital it is not as critical. With most pro level DSLRs you can dial in the exact known Kelvin temp of your lights and / or shoot a grey card in a first shot, then reference the grey card for proper white balance in the RAW converter.
