What type of thread sealant to use on a Coleman Lantern?
I have a Dual Fuel Northstar lantern that needs to have the valve assembly replaced. I disassembled the lantern and have the replacement part, but I noticed the old valve has some kind of paste on the threads leading into the gas tank. Is it just regular gasoline resistant pipe dope? I’ve got some yellow teflon tape for gas lines. Would that work instead?
I just don’t want to have leaks from fuel being forced up through the threads when the lantern is under pressure.
Hi, You got a great lantern there…one of the best.
Teflon is OK for the filler cap thread but for the burner valve it can get a bit hot.
You get special tapes for hot stuff, different grade, skill required.
That paste is heat resistant sealant good for gasoline burners.
It’s cheap to buy, just a small tube will last a lifetime….see a gas fitting store, automotive store, plumbing merchant or a general DIY store.
Coleman list a sealant supplied with gas conversion kits but not as a separate product.

With gas fittings don’t cut corners or try cheap solutions.
