Håfa Adai & Welcome

The closing of a chapter in life is always a bittersweet experience - bitter that it's ending, sweet memories for what it was, and what is to come. That being said, we'd like to share with you a re-cap of the accomplishments of your Senator and Chairman of the Committee on Aviation, Federal Affairs, Labor, Housing, Banking & Insurance, Jesse Anderson Lujan...

Guam is an island defined by diversity, and just as diverse as the people of Guam are, so too are their needs. It is for this reason that voters must ensure that they elect government officials who have the depth and breadth of experience to address the complex needs and concerns of Guam's citizens. Just as important, voters must carefully select candidates who not only have the insight to identify focal issues but who have the sensitivity to address those issues in a systematic and efficient way. In short, the people need senators who can, no matter how difficult or daunting the task may be, get the job done.

Senator Jesse Anderson Lujan has demonstrated again and again that he is the right senator for the job. Adversity causes some men to break and causes others to break records. Through the tough times, Senator Lujan has come through for us. He has stood up strongly and defiantly against the U.S Government so that our island may grow and prosper. While Senator Lujan welcomes and is grateful to our U.S. Armed Forces, he knows it is necessary to ensure that with the imminent military buildup that Guam be accorded a partnership with the military rather than a position of undignified subservience. For this reason he has sought 2.4 billion dollars from the military to improve Guam's infrastructure and resources so that military and civilian populations alike can enjoy a better and safer island. Senator Lujan has fought for three terms and will continue to fight for Guam to be formally recognized by the United States and for Guam's right to an improved status.

Closer to home, Senator Lujan has created successful initiatives to improve Guam's economic infrastructure by introduction of Bill 122, The Power Bill Reduction and Stabilization Act of 2007, and through his Open Skies policy. Bill 122 would allow for the possibility of private power companies to provide safe and alternative power, the people of Guam can enjoy considerable household savings. By making Guam's international airport into a distribution hub free of federal cargo restrictions, our island has created 50 million dollars in added revenue, and according to George Bamba, Governor Camacho's chief of staff, we now have 2,200 additional jobs. Further saving Guam's taxpayers potentially millions of dollars, Senator Lujan introduced legislation requiring GMH and GIAA to retain legal counsel on island rather than hiring overpriced off-island legal counsel.

Senator Lujan has also committed significant effort to improving healthcare for Guam's people and to ensuring that Guam's seniors are taken care of. With the Air Ambulance Service now in full operation, the next level of care is available to the people of Guam. Residents can now receive rapid and safe medical transportation to the nearest hospital that can provide the proper treatment. Additionally, with the passage of Senator Lujan's COLA Relief Act, COLA recipients will be able to use government issued certificates to secure loans, pay taxes, and to get the money they need when they need it.

Lastly, Senator Lujan has made great strides in promoting accountability by requiring all applicants for government hire to disclose felony records and furthermore that all elected officials make full disclosure of any gifts or emoluments they have received from airlines.

With the current term coming to a close, please be reminded that Senator Lujan's work for the people of Guam is far from done. It would be his honor to continue his mission to improve our island and serve our people. He continues to be committed to a better and brighter future for Guam!
