Strange tube object in sky?

A friend told me this
This happened in late 70s he was only 9yrs old
Walking to school with his sister in morning, day was clear , as he approached school gates he looked up and “aeroplane level ” high in the sky and saw a clearly defined orange flourescent tube, it had no soft glow -just a thick solid orange heater bar colour it was NOT a streetlamp, chinese lantern or ufo shaped or anything remotely near to him) – he looked around and no other kids were looking up -even though it was so conspicuous, he asked his sister and she was even saw it , so they deliberately stood there looking up at this tube- hoping others would notice but nobody did
He thought nah , im a little kid going to primary school – i must be imagining it…but his sister saw it aswell… but some 30 years later that sighting still sticks with him vividly and he says he has described 100% what he saw.

And? The question is…..
