how do i sharpen the straight edged knife on my leatherman surge with out taking of the stainless steel filing?

it is dull so i need to sharpen it how do i do this without ruining the blade cause on my previous knife my wave i sharpened it using an electric kitchen knife sharpener and it began to rust how to i sharpen the blade on my surge without ruining it

use a double sided oilstone. make smooth even strokes back and forth on both sides and all will be well. and don’t ever use a “diamond” stone or kitchen sharpener EVER!!!!
