what was the name of the military base that was bombed, and led the US into WW2?
The Imperial Navy of Japan attacked several installations in the US territory of Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941. Wickham field was the Air Force base. The worst of the damage, though, was to our Naval forces in the bay at Pearl Harbor. You can easily get the names of all the bases attacked, such as Kaneohe Naval Air Station, from Wikipedia
They also attacked other bases, principally US and British, all across SE Asia within a few days or weeks. But Hawaii was plenty for us to jump in. We expected the attack but did not realize how much force Japan could project so far away from their bases. A close thing that we had our carriers out to sea when the attack happened….I wonder, still, if it was just coincidence.
