What is the survival rate of a baby born at 24 weeks and 6 days?

I gave birth to my little girl Ivy two days ago, the hospital have sent me home because I’m well enought to go home and they needed my bed but Ivy is still in hospital. My boyfriend convinced me to come home and sleep, not that I have. I’m beside myself with worry.

Survival rates are so much better than they used to be, but I think it all depends on the baby. She probably stands a very good chance of having a fantastic life ahead of her.

Hunny I would advise you to keep talking to your doctors. I can understand that this must feel very daunting, and that maybe you might feel awkward about asking them all the time, but that is what they are there for. Yes, Ivy is the patient, but you are her mummy and you have every right to ask questions again and again if you feel the need to. The nursing staff will be able to help you ask the right kind of questions if you speak to them too. You need their support as much as your daughter does right now, so lean on them and let them help you all they can.

Miracles happen all the time darling, and I pray that Ivy is one of them. Your boyfriend sounds like a sensible and caring man. As someone else has already said, rest as much as you both can, and remember you’re not alone through this, either of you.
