How do I stop sleeping so deep at night?

I am a firefighter and I continue to sleep through emergency calls because I simply dont hear anything at night. I usually never wake in the middle of the night for anything. I have been this way for as long as I can remember. I just cant seem to wake up for anything in the middle of the night. It is kind of a problem in my line of work. Is there any way I can sleep lighter at night and still be able to sleep well at night? Im even willing to take medications.
