What is a alternator repair kit? How difficult is it to install?

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus and my battery light started flickering. The next morning my car wouldn’t start. I jumped it multiple times and the battery would not stay charged. I took it to the auto parts store and they told me my battery was fine, and but I had a bad alternator. I really don’t want to pay the price of a new or rebuild one and I noticed there is a repair kit you can buy. Will this work? How long will it last? How difficult is the repair?

It depends on what is wrong with the alternator. Most times it is the bridge rectifier(diode pack) or regulator that has gone bad. If the repair kit doesn’t include the part that actually needs repair, it would be kind of pointless.
It is not that easy to replace some of the parts. The bearings also just don’t fall out and breaking the aluminum housing is easy if you are not careful taking them out especially if you don’t use the correct tools. Not to mention if you mix up some of the bolts(some are insulated and some are not), you can create additional problems. I would recommend to either bring it somewhere to be rebuilt or purchasing a rebuilt alternator.
