PTs & PTAs: Why does the walking cane belong on the stronger side?

When I pointed this out to a friend (that the cane always goes on the stronger side) he asked me why. I don’t really know why. Could a PT or a PTA out there explain to me exactly why that is?
Because you put your weight on the stronger side to support yourself.
